VoIP to Get Prohibited By Microsoft

The announcement made by Microsoft on the discontinuation of VoIP service is upsetting many mobile stores in the mobile market. It was clearly stated that Voice-over-IP applications will be wiped out of Microsoft’s Windows Marketplace. These voice over Internet protocol applications are gaining popularity because these help mobile users to make cheap Internet calls. If this facility will not come with the whole package of Microsoft’s Marketplace then it will no doubt annoy many mobile users. This announcement shows that Microsoft is in constant fear that the inclusion of VoIP in their operating services might crash down their sources of revenue generation.

It shows that new technology is the enemy of the traditional technology. Many critics think that even if Microsoft forbids the usage of VoIP service in its mobile operating system then also it cannot be said that mobile users will close their eyes from using the VoIP service. There are many websites on the Internet which are offering voice-over Internet protocol services at the cheapest rates. Microsoft earns lots of revenues by selling applications in the Marketplace and recently it requested many developers to associate themselves with this company for making new applications through which they can earn scores of profits.

Recession Tolls Heavy on Infosys as It Prophesies Major Drop in Revenues

Infosys Technologies, the second leading outsourcing company says that it is going to have a major reduction in its revenue generation in the fourth quarter. The blame for this prediction goes to the ongoing recession. The representatives of the company have informed that the revenue generation will reduce from 3.1 per cent to 6.7 per cent which means between US$4.35 billion and $4.52 billion in this financial year.

As most of the companies are trying to shrink their prices and expenditure, the same pressure can be seen transparently with Infosys Technologies. This can be well understood from the net profit made by the company in the fourth quarter which is exactly is 2.6 percent effecting $321 million and on the other hand, the full year net profit rose to 10 per cent effecting $1.3 billion.

Siddharth Pai, a co-worker at outsourcing consultancy firm TPI stated that it is evident that the outsourcing industry is going through a stormy night as many customers are postponing new contracts. Unless the customers welcome their contracts, an outsourcing company will not be making money. Recession affects the company’s hiring figure as well. Last year Infosys Technologies took in 18, 946 employees whereas the hiring figure till March 31 is 13, 663 only. That’s a vast difference which is the resultant of hammering effect of the shrunken global economy.

India Still the Paradise for Cyber Crimes with Ineffective IT Act 2000

Elections are getting closer but still there are no measures taken for making amendments in IT Act, 2000. As usual political leaders are busy in safeguarding their interests. Unless they get their demands they won’t act efficiently for the immediate amendments in Indian IT laws. At the world’s centre stage, Indian cyber law is distinguished as weaker and lacking in stringent security portfolios. Today the nation has become the haven for cyber crimes. This freedom is obviously granted by the faded and rotten Indian Information Technology Act, 2000.

After a long period of 8 years, amendments were allowed by the government of India to modify the defaults in IT Act, 2000. To a great delight the IT Amendment Act, 2008 is successfully passed by the Parliament of India in the month of December, 2008 and it is even flagged off by the president of India on 5th February, 2009. However, the Bill needs further notification by the government and then only it will become effective. Mr. Praveen Dalal, India’s well-known techno-legal expert expresses his resentment over the recommended Bill, 2008 by stating that the Bill has to be refined with more amendments till it gets the actual power. On the other hand, the judges of the Supreme Court of India have pointed out the weaker face of the present cyber law of India.

Further Cost Reduction of IT Outsourcing Services By 2010

Gartner, the giant IT research and advisory company recently announced that the cost of IT services in outsourcing sector are predicted to fall further by 5-20 per cent within 2009-2010. The reason for this gloomy figure is the current shattered economy which is passing through a wavering stage. Additional causes responsible for this anticipatory announcement are the meagre IT budget and the instability in the contemporary financial market.

It also added that this downturn in price would occur due to the growing competition among the old and new IT players who are battling for generating the set target of revenues by offering cost-effective services. In the whole scenario of the IT economy, this rate race would harshly affect its GDP as well. Outsourcing is a must for the global IT industry and the present market condition is even lashing most of the clients to renegotiate various terms and conditions set in contract letters with their vendors.

The Indian IT sector is also falling prey to the global recession as most of the outsourcing companies are being bound to reduce their outsourcing rates. The recent happenings like the Satyam scandal, bloodshed in Mumbai terrorist attack, the sea-saw ups and downs in rupee exchange rate etc. are standing as the proposed obstacles in front of the IT outsourcing players for bidding their favourable market prices.
