YouTube has turned down the claim of royalties ask by British based songwriters’ society as the renewable amount surmount previous amount and taking significant pie from their profits.
Worldwide renowned and loved video sharing website of Google, YouTube has turned off its video viewing from UK video enthusiasts. Confirmed from Google the news broke that, YouTube will impede all music videos to be viewed by British based viewers because of site’s inability to arrive at a rights deal that is to be settled with royalty-collection society of songwriters. The predicament related to the rights deal begins arises as one of the British society named ‘PRS for Music’ claimed the world’s most ubiquitous and famed video sharing portal, YouTube to pay royalties on behalf of around 50,000 composers. The amount which was being claimed surpassed to a much higher level than the amount of earlier licensing agreement which is now reported to be expired. According to spokesperson has concluded that the ‘costs are simply prohibitive’ for them as per the terms making them lose substantial amount of their capital with each playback of songs.
This disagreement between the PRS and YouTube is indicative of the rising tension between partnerships between music industry and the worldly popular site.
